Obituary of Leslie Welford
At Les’s request cremation with take place with a private interment at a later date
Leslie Horace Welford passed away March 21st, 2013 at Chatham Kent Health Alliance in his 86th year; predeceased by loving wife of 51 years, Mavis (Bradbury) (1999); survived by loving wife, Mary (West); will be greatly missed by children Elizabeth (James) Garlick, Helen (Russ) Imeson, Chris Abel, Patricia (Martin) Lansche, Brian (Rachel) Welford, Mike (Missy) Welford; grandchildren Scott, Daphne, Ron, Steve, Jackie, Tim, Rebecca, Brad, Derek, Joanna, Brianna, Liam, Chetasia, Caitlin, Matthew; great-grandchildren Jasper, Arosa, Ethan, Samantha, Oliver, Abby, Jackson, Penelope, Kaydee; loving brother of Joyce (2007), Polly, Nancy, Margaret and their families; missed by the Bradbury family in England as well as by his wife Mary’s family.
Born in England, May 23rd, 1926 and emigrated to Canada in 1956; served during WWII in the British Merchant Navy; passionate about dairy farming which was his career for most of his life; employed as ROP inspector from 1972 until his retirement.
He had a great passion for music to share with his family and friends; loved singing, playing the autoharp and harmonica, camping, dancing, playing cards, golfing, woodworking, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and travelling; created numerous items for his family. His quick wit and charm was enjoyed by all.
Thanks to the staff of the Dialysis Unit of CKHA for their kindness and those at Caleb Village for all their help; also a very special thanks to Blake and Ann for their love and support, and the welcome received in Florida from Tracy and Heather.
Celebration of his life for family and friends will take place May 19th, 2013 at 1:30 p.m., for a graveside memorial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Thamesville; fellowship to follow.
