Obituary for Annie Bell Elizabeth Smith (nee Lovell)

Annie Smith, a resident of Chatham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2023 in her 91st year at Riverview Gardens. Born in Chatham, daughter of the late Neil and Mary (Bellamy) Lovell. Predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Donald Blake Smith (2016). Beloved mother to Dennis & Lisa Smith, Lynn Smith & George Denkers, Diane & Bryan Edmondson, Dean Smith, and Janice & Robin Dudley. Loving grandmother to Candice, Becky, Drew, Karn, Kurt, Alissa, Hailey, Tate, Ashley, Heather, Karla, Hunter, Shakira, Tyler, Myles, and Taryn. Annie was a proud grandmother to 35 great grandchildren. Beloved sister Mary Dehens. Dear sisters and brothers-in-law to Phyllis & John Smith, Margo & Gerard Bechard, and Donna Ouellette. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her brothers, sister-in-laws, and brother-in-laws: Ken & Bella Lovell, Will & Helen Lovell, Alvie & Yvonne Lovell, Walter Dehens, Wayne & Rose Smith, Harland & Kay Smith, and Maurice Ouellette.
Annie grew up in a farm family in Wabash and Dresden. She was a retired custodian from the Kent County Board of Education at McNaughton and McKeough Public Schools. She was a home body and enjoyed baking, sewing, reading, plants, bargain hunting, and visits with her family. You could often find her watching her kids and grandchildren playing sports when they were growing up. She loved watching a good hockey game with Don and Mary.
At Annie’s request, there will be “no fuss”. Cremation has taken place and she will be resting beside Dad at the Maple City Cemetery, Chatham. Donations to the Chatham Alzheimer’s Society or Chatham Kent Hospice is appreciated in lieu of flowers. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com.
