After attending Rene’s memorial today & revisting my 50+ years of friendship with Rene, I thought it appropriate to share my thoughts.
I was acquainted to Rene through our mutual music interests in the 60’s & had the pleasure of playing in bands with Rene (& Rick) in the late 60’s/early 70’s. I was a few years younger & had lost my father in 1968; but the VanAcker brothers were big supporters & music helped me move forward.
After leaving Rodney for university & career we always enjoyed returning home for the occasional band reunion. Rene (&Rick) were the best.
Whenever we needed a dose of friendship, Rene was always available. Having married Peggy’s cousin (Brenda) there was the annual family reunions; Rene & I would always catch up & share some laughs.
When we had the opportunity to move back to the area (London) 20 years ago,it was great to see Rene more often.
Rene was a classic; great Partner to Peg, father/grand-father,etc....very talented....always an optimist.
I will never forget my/our friend Rene.

Although I didn't know Rene well, I do remember him as a teenager playing guitar with Rick. In later years - mostly at Padfield family weddings - I remember him as a quiet, kind, gentle man. You will miss him greatly and I am so very sorry for your loss!

Uncle Rene was a man of kindness, patience, calmness and classic STYLE!
In his numerous roles - husband, brother, father, uncle, grandpa, friend, neighbour - he proved continually to be a sturdy rock, and a place of shelter for so many. I have many fond memories including always admiring his incredible shop and all the treasures (including those classic pin-up calendars) contained within that "vintage vault" of his! He always took care, patience and attention to look beyond the "RUST" in things, and restore life back into things... this is a perfect metaphor for his dear life - always working to fix and shine things up and let them gleam. Rock and Roll along the open highways ahead. Love, niece Katie. xo
