Obituary of Roy Harrison Holmes

Holmes: Roy Harrison, a resident of Thamesville, passed away at the Village on the Ridge, Ridgetown on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at the age of 92. Born in Camden Twp., son of the late Eldred and Edna (Lyons) Holmes. Beloved husband of Norma (Bloom) Holmes for 66 years. Loving father of Brad Holmes (Susan) of Thamesville, Jeff Holmes (Nancy) of Windsor. Sadly missed by grandchildren Meghan (Livio), Courtney (Chris), Lauren (Kurt), Matthew (Emily),  Carly, Katie, and great-grandson Arturo. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by sisters and brothers Doris Scratch (Late Doug), Don Holmes, Lloyd Holmes (Late Marion), Norma Hooper (Late Jack), Harold "Pat" Holmes ( Late Joanne), Elda Myers (Irwin), Erwin Holmes ( Late Irene). Roy started working for the Dresden P.U.C. and was the Manager of the Thamesville P.U.C. for 33 years. He was "The Chief" of the Thamesville Fire Department for 25 years and treasurer of the Thamesville United Church. He enjoyed many active years playing and coaching baseball in Dresden and area (inducted into the Dresden Sports Hall of Fame), participating in the Bothwell Slo Boys Hockey League as "The Shock", spending summers at the cottage on Lake Tomiko and wintering with many close friends in Florida. He was always ready with a quick line, telling funny stories of team mates and friends, puttering in the garage or cottage and watching baseball games in Ferguson Park, along the right field line. Many thanks and appreciation to Dr. Verburg and the entire Village on the Ridge staff in Ridgetown for their kindness, special care and professionalism. Due to the current Covid-19 situation, cremation has taken place a private family interment will take place at the Mayhew-Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Thamesville at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the Thamesville Fireman's Association or the Thamesville United Church would be appreciated.
