To all of Ida's Family
Sorry for the loss of your Mother. Many fun times with her at the Benjamin reunion a few years ago. I also did get to visit her in Wallaceburg when she was at the Oaks and also in Dresden, and then of course Covid hit and those visiting times were done. Treasure all your fun memories and know that you will have many.

May cherished memories, the comfort of family and the sympathy of friends help to console you in this time of sorrow.
I always looked forward to seeing Ida at the Dresden Housewives meetings. She would have such interesting readings to share with the group. We would also attend the RWTO meetings together. She was a delightful person to be with.
My mother, Thelma Jacques, sends her condolences as well.

Ida welcomed Bob and I into the Dawn Mills community when we came in 1960. Over the years we shared many happy memories. She was a good neighbour. She believed in community and was active in social functions. A dear friend and was always willing to lend a hand and a listening ear. I enjoyed staying in contact with her even after she left the community. She had a sincere heart, a wonderful laugh, and always made people feel comfortable. I will miss her. Doreen Dunlop

My sincere condolences to Cathy and John and all of the Holmes family in your sad loss of Ida. Our family has many wonderful memories of time spent with yours in Dawn Mills and the great friendship between your parents and mine.
Years later while living in Chatham I would "run into" Ida and Allen and it was so nice to see their smiles and enjoy a visit with them again.

Sincere condolences to the Holmes family.
We Elgies have many memories of our mother Ruth and Ida talking on the phone for what seemed like hours. Ida was a good friend and big support to Ruth. They compared notes about the father-son sharecropping arrangements they both experienced as wives who had moved to their husband's family farm, their homes, their families, their plans, their dreams.
Ida got Ruth started in supply teaching by calling her up to fill in when she needed a day off from her full-time teaching job. Ida showed, by example, that it could be done, even without daycare or supportive mothers or mothers-in-law. (Ida took five year old Jimmy Holmes with her to her classroom when she started teaching full time at Turnerville School in 1958, because Jimmy was too young to go to the school next door, at SS # 3 Camden.)
I am especially grateful for all the help Ida gave me in writing my book, This Land. Her stories about moving to Dawn Mills in 1948 into a house without electricity and indoor plumbing, from way more advanced -- and electrified -- Wabash, about helping with church suppers, about the couples club at Lindsay Road, Wabash and Dawn Mills, and so many more, were just great.
Many fond Dawn Mills memories of time our families spent together.
Much sympathy to you all.
