Anne, we are heartbroken to hear of Ed’s passing. He was a truly remarkable man. I can recall so many early childhood memories of both you and Ed. Vacationing together, neighbourhood walks, getting candy in paper bags at the corner store, sitting in your covered porch, talking and playing for hours, fighting over your cookies during our special Christmas meals, and so many more. Some of favourite memories of Ed will always be dressing up in his old work clothes down in your basement and putting on fashion shows, playing around with all of his collectible phones, our constant playful fights over my dearly beloved “Elfie”, and getting endless rides in the back of his pick up truck. When I was little, being at your home was like being surrounded by the best smelling candle — it was comforting, it smelled nice, it made me feel good, and I knew I was safe. You wanted to be in your home because it had this special, safe aura about it. There has always been so much love in both of your hearts for our family, and for that, we are forever grateful for both you and Ed. Our family has gone through many changes (and physical distances) over the years, but the feeling of mutual love, familiarity, and friendship has always remained intact. You are “once in a lifetime” friends. Our family will continue to cherish you both, remember our special times with Ed, and support you, Anne, going forward. I will never, ever forget Ed, as after all, he was a big “dipstick”. Sending love and strength to you, Anne. Xoxo Whitney Sweeney & family

Deb and Blair Dickson posted a condolence

The year was 1990 and that was the start of an enduring relationship between the Dickson family and the Chapman family that spanned 32+ years. During that time we knew Ed to be the epitome of all qualities one would wish to ever see in a human being. His love of life was always evident in his unselfish willingness in sharing of time and energy to help people. Hockey, golf and touring yard sales in search of forgotten gems were his passions but being a best friend first to Anne was his greatest focus. Ed had an insatiable appetite to treat others like family and this behaviour manifested itself into so many great memories for the Dickson family. Ed may have been small in stature but his positive approach to life was gigantic. Our family memories of Ed will always be a lasting testament to the positive impact he had on all of us. As the saying goes “gone but never to be be forgotten”.
